The 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS is a relatively easy SUV to repair, and is a good choice for the average SUV owner. The headlight bulb is no problem to access and change on this SUV, as you only have to reach behind the housing for access. Both the front and rear wiper blades are no problem. Other models will require the use of tools, so it’s a nice touch to be able to reliably change these blades with just your hands. Checking the oil level is easy to do, as the oil dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay.
Some things are more problematic on the 1997 Mitsubishi Montero Sport XLS. Changing the oil can be more difficult, as you will have to remove a few bolts and a cover to access the drain plug. These are more steps than you’ll find on other models. You will have to completely remove the housing for reliable access to the tail light. This will require a few tools, and would have been less of a problem if there were a panel in the rear of the vehicle for access. The center brake light can be a problem to access, as you will have to remove a few screws, and a cover, in order to get to the bulbs. Other models make this bulb an LED light, meaning you won’t have to change it nearly as often as you will on this vehicle.
