The 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS is a moderately easy vehicle to maintain and a good choice for those experienced in vehicle maintenance. Many of the tail light bulbs are easy to access, as you only have to remove one easy to remove cover in the rear of the trunk for access. Checking the transmission fluid level with reliability is no problem, as the dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay. Not every model includes this dipstick. The components of the spare tire are easily accessible in the rear of the vehicle. This keeps the tire and jack kit ready to go in case of emergency.
Some things are problematic on the 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS. You will have to remove the entire headlight housing for access to the headlight. This will require a few tools to complete. Changing the cabin air filter will require you to lower the glove box first. This would have been easier if there were an access panel in the rear of the glove box instead. The reverse light is more difficult to change, as you will have to use many tools in order to remove many fasteners for access.
