Alfa Romeo is a storied Italian car company that was founded in 1910 and is owned by Fiat. Alfa Romeo has produced popular sports cars and compact cars in Europe such as the Spider, 156, MiTo, Giulietta and 4C. The Italian police and Carabinieri drive Alfa Romeos with beautiful paint schemes including baby blue Giulias with white stripes. In the U.S., Alfa offers only more expensive models such as the Giulia, Stelvio and 4C, while in years past they offered the Giulietta Spider, 164 and other models for sale.
Long known for offering beautiful cars that drive well, but with poor reliability, Alfa Romeo has struggled financially through the years and was acquired by Fiat in 1986. The marque has been featured prominently in popular culture in both the U.S. and Europe including Dustin Hoffman’s iconic Spider in the 1967 film the Graduate.
